Southern Section Chief Election 2008

(For Canaan Valley, Hidden Valley, Hidden Valley Nordic,

and Wisp ski areas)

Candidate: Doris Rollins

Background:  Member of Canaan Valley Ski Patrol (CVSP) and NSP since 1997, Alpine Senior, OEC instructor, Instructor Trainer, and EMM evaluator. CVSP Patroller of the year, CVSP Instructor of the year and secretary for CVSP

Issues facing us as patrollers: a relatively new NSP board, how to increase awareness and participation in NSP programs and increasing communications on issues to all patrollers.  What are your thoughts or feelings on these issues?

A new NSP Board: the new board is listening to the patrollers.  Are you reading the emails? Do you take the time to respond?

Communication: How can I as a section leader or how can the regional director get information to you?  We currently rely on patrol leaders to pass on emails but is there a better way?

I’ve enjoyed the past four years and continue to meet everyone and understand topics or issues that are near and dear to patroller’s hearts.  One challenge has been getting to all the patrols and meeting everyone.  I don’t always have an opportunity to speak at meetings but you will usually find me working a station at a refresher.  The price of gas will definitely have an impact on the frequency of visits but I do hope to see you during ski season.  Communication and feedback has been a challenge.  Messages are sent out to leaders requesting feedback from patrollers.   When I do receive your comments I do carry them with me to the annual Division Spring meeting and have them read into the minutes. I hope to continue as your section chief and continue to funnel your comments back to our regional and eastern division leadership and through this group return NSP to a member focused organization.
